"2008 Unified Carrier Registration in Effect"

Article published on Thursday, May 01, 2008

Some states will begin its 2008 UCR enforcement as early as May 1, 2008. All states however will begin its enforcement by June 1, 2008.

The UCRA is still a new registration program and is being perfected by the states. We are sure to see more changes in the system over the next few years.

Some possible changes to look for are:

  • Trailers will no longer be counted as separate pieces of equipment,
  • Registration year will run concurrent, i.e. January thru December,
  • Insurance filings may be required in the Safer System,
  • Companies with operations in 2007 and 2008 that fail to pay UCR fees can receive a penalty fine imposed by the FMCSA and State agencies.
